Vellore, Dec 10 : Actor-Director and founder President of Naam Tamizhar Iyakkam, Seeman was today released from the central prison here, after the Madras High court quashed his detention under the National Security Act.
Volunteers of his newly launched political party gave him a rousing reception as Mr Seeman, who was in prison for five months, stepped out and indicated that he would contest against Chief Minister M Karunanidhi in the coming assembly elections.
In a brief interaction with waiting newspersons outside the prison, he accused the DMK government of foisting this case, with the sole aim of imprisoning him.
The police was well aware that it was not a fit case for detaining him under NSA, but still they went ahead and foisted the case as per the directives of the higher authorities to detain him in prison, he alleged.
The government had foisted a similar case and detained him for 90 days in Palayamkottai prison, he said and announced that he would take the government to task.
Mr Seeman said he would file a defamation case against the government for foisting the case and detaining him in prison for five months, crippling his activities and preventing from taking up party works.
Later, addressing the volunteers in front of the prison, he accused Mr Karunanidhi of failing to protect the Sri Lankan Tamils and stiffling the voice of people, who speak for the Lankan Tamils.
Asked whether he would take on Mr Karunanidhi in the coming assembly elections, he said ''there is a possibility''.
