Left parties disappointed over allottment of seats by AIADMK

Chennai, Mar 16 : The left parties, Communist Party of India (Marxist) and CPI expressed their dismay over allottment of seats by the AIADMK for the April 13 Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu.

The left parties were upset a lot as the AIADMK has allotted them two of the six sitting seats in case of CPI and three of the nine sitting seats in case of CPI(M).

In a statement here, CPI(M) state unit secretary G Ramakrishnan said the party had demanded that the AIADMK allot winnable seats besides the sitting seats.

The AIADMK poll panel leaders assured that they would consult Ms Jayalalithaa and come to hold talks with the CPI(M) poll panel before finalising the seats.

However, in the next one hour after they gave the assurance, the AIADMK announced the list of candidates and to our dismay, we found that six sitting seats of the CPI(M) has figured in their list.

''This is shocking and the CPI(M) would not accept this. When the talks were on, it was not proper for the AIADMK to unilaterally announce the list'', he said, in a statement here tonight.

He demanded that the AIADMK withdraw candiates, announced for the constituencies, sought by the CPI(M).

He also announced that to take stock of the situation, the party has convened its emergency executive for tomorrow.

The CPI also decided to convene its District secretaries meeting tomorrow to discuss the issue, source said.
