Raja associate Sadique's death gives new twist to 2G scam probe

Chennai, Mar 16 : The CBI probe into the 2G spectrum scam, involving former Telecom Minister and DMK leader A Raja took a curious turn with his close associate Sadiq Batcha, allegedly committing suicide by hanging at his residence in the city.

Police, however, said they were not sure whether it was a case of suicide or some foul play as they came to know about the incident, only when Batcha was brought to the Apollo Hospital where he was declared brought dead.

When contacted, City Police Commissioner T Rajendran said ''he was brought dead to the Apollo Hospitals about 1330 hrs.

The family says, he (Batcha) hanged himself. We are yet to verify and we are investigating.'' Sources said the 37-year-old Batcha was found hanging in his bedroom at his residence at Teynampet area in the central part of the city, around 1230 hrs.

His wife and mother-in-law were believed to be in the house when Batcha went to the bedroom and did not come out for a long time.
