Karunanidhi more concerned about family welfare: Vijayakant

Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam leader, Vijayakant said that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president, M. Karunanidhi was acting against the principles and the ideals of his preceptors (as often told by him) Thanthai Periyar and Aringar Anna. With the corrupt DMK regime their principles and ideals were given a go by.
As part of his whirlwind campaign for the candidates of AIADMK, CPI (M) and DMDK at Kulasekaram, Verkilampi, Thuckalay and Nagercoil in the district here on Sunday he said that Aringar Anna was against the Congress in 1967 but contrary to his principles his prime disciple, Mr. Karunanidhi was now supporting the same party for reasons best known to him.
With the filing of charge-sheet by CBI against nine individuals including the former Union Minister of Telecom, A. Raja of DMK, it was proved beyond doubt that DMK president was only concerned about the family members and those who supported them instead of ensuring the welfare of the people from all walks of life particularly farmers, weavers and fishermen.
He further pointed out that the sum of Rs.212 crore had been spent to start six television channels in the last five years. From where did they get the amount? The people have the right to know about the fact.
In the affidavit filed to the Election Commission, the DMK president mentioned that he has moveable and immoveable properties worth Rs.5 crore and his wife has asset worth Rs.40 crore. From where did they get this huge amount, questioned the DMDK leader. They demanded the removal of Madurai Collector, U. Sahayam, only because of his not extending ‘sneham' (favour and affection) to the ruling party, he added. However, the Election Commission was acting in an unbiased manner, which irked the ruling party especially in Madurai district. When the EC tried to prevent distribution of money and other freebies to the electorates, the DMK president pointed out that the Election Commission was imposing an undeclared emergency. What would he say about the unannounced power cuts in the State which was affecting the poor, down-trodden and other middle class people, he posed in the election meeting held at Thuckalay.
The criticism of the EC by the president of DMK was evidence of the fear of losing the polls, he said.
