Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) leader Vijayakant has accused Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi of failing to take steps to put an end to the killing of Indian fishermen, allegedly by Sri Lankan Navy.
Ms.Sonia Gandhi, while addressing an election rally in Chennai on Tuesday, has expressed concern over the killing of the fishermen.
At the least, they could intensify patrolling, which by itself would help the fishermen, he said during the election campaign at Tiruthuraipoondi in Tiruvarur district on Wednesday.
Recalling the services rendered by Communist leader Jeeva, Mr.Vijayakant appealed to people to elect K.Ulaganathan of CPI as MLA of the constituency.
Jeeva led a simple life and lived for the welfare of people and nation. Sharing an anecdote, Mr.Vijayakant said, once Kamaraj went to Jeeva's house to take him to a function.
Jeeva did not come out of the house immediately but took sometime. Later Kamaraj came to know that Jeeva was waiting for his only dhothi and shirt to dry. ‘Such is the simplicity of Jeeva. Mr.Karunanidhi claims to be a friend of Jeeva.
But everyone knows the value of the properties declared by Mr.Karunanidhi in his affidavit,' he said.
‘Former Chief Minister M.G.Ramachandran respected Jeeva.
That is why he started a transport corporation in the name of Jeeva' Vijayakant said.
